Who Are We
David
Originates from the Yorkshire mill town of Barnoldswick, which along with numerous cotton mills also once boasted 4 Rolls Royce factories building aero engines and was also the home of Silentnight Beds. Although due to the re-organisation of County boundries the town has jumped backwards and forwards over the border between Lancashire and Yorkshire Barnoldswick was at the time firmly located in the former West riding of Yorkshire. In fact David still keeps his old school cap with the White Rose of Yorkshire proudly displayed on the front as proof. David is a lover of all types of music, but his first love has to be Brass Bands and has a huge collection of brass band music on all types of media including some rare recordings on 78rpm records. Like his Father and Grandfather David was also a player, and played cornet alongside his Father in the Barnoldswick Public Prize Brass Band following it's reformation in 1968. After moving to Rochdale in 1975 David changed to Euphonium and played with the Kingsway Brass Band for a spell.
In 1989 David along with his wife Joyce moved moved to Gloucestershire due to promotion in his vocation of Transport Management and has been employed by several of the major players in the express parcel delivery sector of transport.
JOYCE
Was born in Salford, now part of Greater Manchester but at that time in Lancashire hence the Red Rose. Joyce moved to Sale while still very young and after attending school in Sale moved to Rochdale where her Mother owned and ran a Grocery shop.
After leaving school Joyce was employed in the electronics industry, employed by a company manufacturing and supplying television sets which worked on a system which did not require an aerial. Instead the signal was transmitted via overhead cables and was known as "Piped" The system which was supplied on a rental basis allowed people in poor reception areas to recieve a better "Picture". Along with the television channels available at the time a few radio channels were also transmitted through the system. Although reasonably popular it never really took off in a big way. Perhaps it's concept was just way ahead of it's time, as basically it was an early version of cable TV and we all know that story.
In later years Joyce went on to be employed by a national express parcel delivery company in the customer services department. It was while working there that she met David and later the couple were married in Lydney in Gloucestershire
