The Himalayan is an albino Cavy that developes pigment on its nose (Smut) ears and feet, collectively known as the points during the first few months of life.
The contrast between the sharpness of these points and the pure white of the main body colour is the essence of the Homalayan's appeal. It is therefore highly desirable in a show animal.
In very cold weather there is a tendency to form body pigment, giving a muddy appearance to the white body colour. This tendency is reversed in very hot weather when the points, particularly the Smut and the feet may fade in desity.

As can be seen from the above photgraphs the young himalayan starts to develope pigment in the ears after a few days. However it can take up to six months before the points are fully developed, or "Cleared" as it is known.
