On 14 / 15th March 2009 the first ever seminar of European Cavy judges took place at the Hotel de Linde in Retie, north east Belgium. The delegates at the seminar comprised of 25 Cavy judges from 10 different countries accross Europe. On Saturday 14th, once all of the delegate had introduced themselves to the conference a debate took place about judging by points to the new European standard. Following this, in the afternoon, a very impressive lecture on the longhaired breeds was given by Lena Tisk & Jens Lindgren from Sweden.
The lecture was both very informative and thought provoking. Following an introduction to all of the longhaired breeds which was given using exhibits which had been provided by breeders accross Europe. Finally to end the Saturday session a "Hands on" practical judging session took place where the delegates were divided into teams of four with each group judging each of six exhibits.

On Day 2 David Marshall from the UK, assisted by Evelyne van Vliet, gave a lecture on the Fox & Tan breeds. Once again exhibits had been brought in from breeders accross Europe with both breeds being represented in all of the recognised colours.
Following this and keeping to the same format as the previous day, the delegates were divided into teams and a practical judging session took place.

At the end of the conference all of the delegates agreed that it had been a very interesting and useful weekend and that much had been gained.
The standard has been most definately set for the future
